Traction issues on hard-medium launches... Need some advise

Alright guys, if you know you have more power getting to the ground than what your tires can handle, what is the best way/method to get a good/quick launch without spinning out other than picking up a set or drag radials?

This may hurt your times a little bit, but in the past at our track, I've seen quite a few guys lay 200-400 pounds of sand over the axle just like we do in the winter around here.

I know you can air down a little bit, but it is a fine line that you already know you don't want to cross.

Did you get a chance to try a rolling launch?

truckin151 12-08-2009 02:06 PM

No I didn't try a rolling launch, I did one run where I gunned it at the start and the truck was sliding all over the place, and on the second run I eased into and still spinned but not as badly and after that I didn't want to try again on those tires (they were old and worn down but should have still had some traction to them). I did go down to discount and picked up some new rear tires which seem to help out a ton in comparison on the street, went from a 275 to a 305 so it added about an inch of tread.

its really just a matter of finding the best way to launch your vehicle if you want to stick with the tires that you have. i think that my best launches with the hemi are to flash hard, it will spin, then ill pedal it a bit and it usually bites..

ive said it a million times and ill say it again...drag radials are the only way to get the most out of your vehicle performance wise. for fun, we made a couple passes with the demon steel wheels and street tires last time out. with the hoosiers and draglites, the car ran 13.50s-60s all day. With the street tires, it ran a 16 something, and then a 14.90 or so. on the first run, i was standing around the 330 mark and it was still spinning the tires that far out. she had to get out of it around half track because the tires just wouldnt bite.

Well next time we go out Im going to see if I cant borrow one of the guys sets of hoosiers and put them on my truck for a few runs while his truck cools down.

i would expect it to make a WORLD of difference...especially on the track.

If you haven't seen it over on the 3rd gen section this is a vid from the track last weekend...

Laramie1997 12-15-2009 01:08 PM

Video said 18.50. Voice didn't say the trap.

BadStratRT 12-15-2009 01:26 PM

18.50..did he fix his traction issues by swapping in a 4.7?

ha!

(i wonder how long before someone with a 4.7 fires back at this one)

HEMI RULES!
