camaro vs some ferrari

hah my friend (the same one with the dad who "smokes" lightnings) says his grandfather has a camaro modded but no supercharger or turbo or nitrous. he says that his grandfather beat a new model ferrari by a longshot. he wont tell me what mods he has but im thinking[sm=shutup.gif]

Not likely, but possible. Not all Ferrari's are greatly fast 1/4 mile cars even though they have fairly high horsepower. Just like every other car in the 80's the Ferrari's were pretty good for the time, but they are nothing compared to today where a Neon (SRT-4 that is) could beat most of them as well as the Lamborghini Countach which was only good enough for mid 14's in the 1/4 mile.

Italian cars are all high end HP and no low end toque. small displacement V12s scream but it takes them a little bit to get going. a cam only 6sp LS1 car can run 12.03 with a decent driver in it.

I would have to see that to believe it. Dropping a second and a half is easy if it's a 18 second car, but dropping a mid 13 second car to being a 12 second flat car isn't as simple and I don't see a simple cam swap doing the job, especially on a stock pollution controlled car. I could see it being possible on a car that has other stuff done to it, but not this example in question.

It is possible, but thats a lot of work to get the car that fast all motor.

LG Motorsport cams can do that. He was even running it through the stock cat-back. Not that hard to put a LS1 car into the low 12s. Putting a LT-1 camaro into the low 12s takes a bit more work. Heads, cam, gears, tires can do it with a good driver.

You are correct sir, it would run like a turd unless they remapped the fuel curve and timing advance. There were also probably a few other mods as well, I think someone needs to do more research.

considering the number of high 12 to low 14 second LS1 cars that i see at the track, it simply Cant be that easy...

yeah yeah..i know..this guy only changed this and that and ran 9s stock..ive heard it all before...if it was that simple for these cars to run into the 11s, there would be more that did than there are that didnt.
and for the record, I am a mustang hater, not a GM hater, so i am not arguing because i dont like camaros...hell, my next car might be a GTO.
