Johnson wins at Darlington: #48-Jimmie Johnson won the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington Raceway fior his first win of 2004 and his first win at Darlington. #18-Bobby Labonte finished 2nd. The rest of the top five were #12-Newman, #31-Gordon and #38-Sadler. Pole sitterm #9-Kasey Kahne spun twice but ended up 13th. Points Leader #17-Matt Kenseth had some troubles and aa penalty and ended up 31st, four laps down, but maintains a slim points lead of 21 over #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr., who finished 10th.

Caution 9 - Laps 283 - 288: #9-Kahne and #20-Stewart got together in turn 3 after the 8th caution green flag. Caution 8 - Laps 276 - 281: #45-Petty lost an engine. Caution 7 - Laps 231 - 237: Debris on the track from #21-Rudd who cut down a tire. Caution 6 - Laps 185 - 190: Debris on the track. Caution 5 - Laps 161 - 169: #17-Kenseth may have had a tire go down, slowed down, got tagged by #21-Rudd. #32-Craven, #10-Riggs, #41-Mears and #25-Vickers got involved and all got varying degrees of damage to their cars. Craven's car is badly damaged. Caution 4 - Laps 145 - 151: #9-Kahne lost a right rear tire and spun around. Caution 3 - Laps 53 - 59: Trash bag blowing out on the track. Caution 2 - Laps 29 - 34: #80-Hillenburg got loose after #20-Stewart got into him, spun and hit the wall, #24-Gordon t-boned Hillenburg as he had no place to go, Gordon was on the brakes. Gordon's car is heavily damaged. Both drivers walked away ok. Caution 1 - Laps 10 - 14: #15-Waltrip got loose, smacked the wall, #89-Shepherd hit Waltrip, both drove off, but a lot of damage to the #15. RACE NOTES: (as noted heard on TV or Radio)
---- a few leaders who are towards the rear of the lead lap cars, came in to pit during the 9th caution, #0-Burton,#20-Stewart, #41-Mears, #9-Kahne, #5-Labonte. ---- on lap 252, #42-McMurray had to come in as he had a bad vibration, had a loose wheel. ---- #17-Kenseth had to pit on lap 203 as he had a loose or broken wheel, lost two more laps. ---- #2-Wallace and #0-Burton got together in turn two right after caution 5, both drove on with Wallace lost a bunch of spots. ---- #17-Kenseth took the lead during the 5th caution but NASCAR ruled he pitted before pit road was open and he passed illegally on the track, so they penalized Kenseth 1 lap. ---- #12-Newman came in hot and almost lost it entering pit road and slid a bit hitting a cone, #9-Kahne was behind Newman, saw what happened and drove on instead of pitting. Newman was penalized a pass-thru penalty. ---- green flag pit stops occurred around laps 108-125 range. ---- #15-Waltrip and #45-Petty brought their cars back out during the 3rd caution around lap 59. ---- on the re-start after the 2nd caution, #8-Earnhardt Jr got a tad into #9-Kahne who went up the track and lost many positions, Dale Jr. was told by NASCAR to calm down. ---- all the leaders came into pit during the first caution, #16-Biffle didn't put and took the lead. ---- to the back: none jayski.com redriderbob |
