Trip to the Strip

K, so I finally went with some friends to the track to see how I do. It's only the 2nd time so my times will probably seem slow. Ended up going 3-3.

My mods this time: K&N filter, Champion Sparks, MSD wires, prothane MMs, stock rims and tires w/ 15K on them 30lbs of air.

Results are listed with the opposition's time first, then my time.

02 Mustang GT w/ 3.73 gears, STS and K&N intake - 2 wins, 1 loss
Race 1 15.01 14.55 - My personal best w/ .004 R/T
Race 2 14.85 15.18 - I spun 1st, short shifted to 2nd
Race 3 15.85 14.82 - He missed 3rd
C4 Vette w/ LS1 crate
Race 1 13.49 14.82 - My goal is to beat him eventually
94 Cobra w/ Vortech
Race 1 13.33 14.66 - Yeah I got beat by a girl...yes she has a bf too, I asked
01 Camaro SS
Race 1 15.00 14.81 - He wasn't too happy :D

Overall not bad. It was a good learning experience. If anyone needs my slips, I will scan them in and add them later.

My Kill list:
02 Mustang GT
01 Camaro SS

i dont understand...can you clear up what you ran and what the other person ran? it seems to me that the first number is what the other person ran, and the second is what you ran? if youre a track newbie, mid 14s isnt awful for a stage 0 srt4...however, everyone you raced should have gone home and killed themselves..not because they may have lost to a neon, but because they are the slowest of those cars, ever..

a blown 94 cobra only running 13.3s?

an 01 SS running 15 flat? that is a STOCK mid 13 second car...

and that 02 GT is pretty pathetic as well...that car should be into thr 13s, or damn near...

RE: Trip to the Strip

I know that those times seem slow for the opposition here are some things that might add some light to the stories.

The Mustang GT I raced is also a newbie to the strip. I think he is afraid to hammer it. But he talks a lot of smack, so the I enjoyed beating him down.

The chick with the vortech...I didn't get to see her much because she gave me a half second head start. She passed me at about 1/8th mile mark

The guy with the SS was playing his radio...I could hear it while staging. He probably had a sub or two in there.

My friend with the vette usually runs 13.1s too.

Other things to consider....95 with high humidity + 8-10pm at night = hot air and cool slick track = bad times

RE: Trip to the Strip

where is this track? what elevation?
and where do you live that it is 95 degrees at 10pm? [:'(]

yea he might be lying a little but you can't always go by what the internet or others from around the country/world say a car will do. When i race in louisiana (where there is ALWAYS high humidity) the cars are totally different peices of machinery. It depends on weather conditions, and also, considering the driver of it too. Also i know of two of the same exact cars, same year model and all, bone stock, that run totally different quarter mile times. I think it has something to do with wear/tear, how it is broken in, etc.

and how it is broken in affects a lot. That's why a lot of people argue with me when i tell them how fast my 4.7l ram QC is.

RE: Trip to the Strip

It was at Red River Raceway just north of Shrevport, Louisiana, elevation 100 feet or so. The temp at 8pm was 95, by 10 it was down to 80 but the humidity was really bad. Just let me get back home so I can scan the slips in for you.

RE: Trip to the Strip

im not questioning you...if you could tell me more about your runs, i might be able to lend some advice to get your times down...but i am "wowwed" buy how slow some of the other cars are...at 100' ASL, the air is excellent...but the humidity and temperature will hurt...

and while i understand that one car may run a bit better than another car of the same type depending on how well it has been taken care of, even a poorly maintained LS1 car, with an auto trans should be able to muster up at least a 14 second run! i guess that if it was a manual trans with an awful driver, i could see a 15 second run, but thats a car that with tires and VERY simple bolt ons can get into the 12s...id like to know the MPH on it..

jim, are you positive that the "SS" wasnt a V6 with different badges?

Looks like bad track prep to me, or crappy drivers.... not a decent 60' on any of those slips.....

RE: Trip to the Strip

good call freedom..

jim, how hard are you launching, and have you tried bringing that tire pressure away from 30 a bit? your mph is good for 13s, but your short times are worse than my stratus...
