problems hooking up

i just need to vent. today i broke my tires loose 3 time leaving from a light. one as at about 25mph. i couldnt beat this stupid car (dont know what it was, too woried about trying to hook up and it was dark.) so drving half way across town i must have accedentally broke the tire loose 10-15 times. it was stupid.

Yeah I had the same problem so i finally broke down and bought some lower gears and a posi. Hopefully that won't happen again.

if you leave the light hard enough, pretty much anything will "break them loose"...you need to learn to balance your launch, or get much better tires.

i started to think about it and i think it may have been because there is the salt on the road and the cold, but mostly the salt

Cold roads are bad for traction... and salt makes it even worse, and if you have stock 255s on it its even WORSE.. lol j/k, i use to have a bad time hooking up with my SC Dak RT i had Khumos on and they didnt stick worth shiza, so i went down to NTB and orderd some Yokohamas i think thats the name, and they are like glue. I burn them up for a bit and get them sticky and they launch perfect, btw i got 275 in the rear now, so i went from 255 to 275 and kept 255 in the front.

255/50/17s front
275/55/17s rear

i raced another Dak RT the other night at the races, and he had stock 255s and we both ate the tires up till they where smoking good, and did a dig (0mph) i had a Perfecto launch, while he spun i had 1 truck length on him in no time, when we did some punches at like 30, 60 ect.. he did good.. but i still broke away once i hit 3rd.. if my truck actually shifts out of 2nd correctly into 3rd its devistating and scary, with my old tires i could scatch 2nd and 3rd and burn 1st with perfect tranny shifts.. its nice, never thought and auto would do that, my new tires hook up pretty good now you just feel the back of my seat when it shifts now.. lol\

I would get some wider tires, if you like to race alot go with275/285 or 255/275, the 275 work for me.. till i get more hp then ill upgrade to some 285 or 295 ect...

i should point out that tires that are not a drag radial or slick are not made to be "heated up". doing a smokey burnout with a standard street tire makes them greasy, and actually makes traction worse...you should just spin them enough to clean any debris from them.

hmm, thats funny.. When i heated mine up, they didnt get greasy they felt more like gum.. and they stuck ALOT better i mean perfect launch no burnout or anything, it scared me, it was actually one of the best launches ive ever had.. and that was after i smoked them up...

I have..

Yokohama Advan S.T

255/50/17 front
275/55/17 rear
