Gordon's car was deemed "close to an inch" too low, according to NASCAR officials, due to the fact that a bolt on the shock fastener was misaligned. NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said he feels the action was unintentional. No fines or point deductions will be assessed, according to Pemberton. "We're sure this wasn't intentional," Pemberton said. Despite the infraction, Gordon still goes into the record books as the winner. ----------------------------------------------------------- Daytona 500 Friday practice at Daytona Intl Speedway is over, the results: #88-Rudd 190.216 #16-Biffle 190.174 #1-Truex Jr. 190.174 #2-Busch 190.014 #22-Blaney 189.974 slowest: #60-Said 182.905 and #66-Green 185.460 no laps run: #41-Sorenson, #40-Stremme, #96-Raines, #07-Bowyer, #55-Waltrip most laps run: #19-Sadler 40; #11-Hamlin 37 weather: sunny, 54º track temp 79º, wind W 12-17mph incidents: none Best average speed [all laps averaged] (from NASCAR.com's leaderboard service) #12-Newman 186.424 [7th fastest lap], 14 laps run #2-Busch 185.515 [4th], 33 laps #01-Martin 185.435 [8th], 19 laps (2-16-2007) |
RE: Daytona 500
So yeah, it was setting up to be a good day for Dodge. Busch and Newman were up front all day. Busch led the most laps. Could've had 4 Dodges in the top 10 and possibly the winner. Would've been especially cool since it would have been the 2 best Penske drivers and the 2 best Evernham drivers.
Kurt wrecks, Newman blows an engine. After being probably the best two most of the race. 2007 Unofficial Race Results : Daytona 500 Daytona 500 | February 18, 2007 | Race 1 of 36 FIN ST CAR DRIVER MAKE SPONSOR PTS/BNS LAPS STATUS 1 34 29 Kevin Harvick Chevrolet Shell / Pennzoil 190/5 202 Running 2 26 01 Mark Martin Chevrolet U.S. Army 175/5 202 Running 3 7 31 Jeff Burton Chevrolet Cingular Wireless 165/0 202 Running 4 22 109 Mike Wallace Chevrolet Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts 160/0 202 Running 5 35 6 David Ragan * Ford AAA 155/0 202 Running 6 30 19 Elliott Sadler Dodge Dodge Dealers / UAW 150/0 202 Running 7 28 9 Kasey Kahne Dodge Dodge Dealers / UAW 146/0 202 Running 8 1 38 David Gilliland Ford M&M's 147/5 202 Running 9 18 13 Joe Nemechek Chevrolet CertainTeed 138/0 202 Running 10 42 24 Jeff Gordon Chevrolet DuPont 134/0 202 Running 11 6 40 David Stremme Dodge Coors Light 130/0 202 Running 12 12 18 J.J.
