Nothing wakes up a motor like forced induction. :D If you can find a good kit, that comes with everything you need to make it run right, it's going to be the easiest way to get a BIG power boost. :D

So go the other direction. Start with the truck stone cold, start it up, let it idle, and point a heat gun, or even a hair dryer at the PCM, to warm it up faster. See what happens.

Should be the same engine. Some of the peripherals are likely different.... So, swap over your intake/sensors/accessories, and likely the oil pan, and oil pump pickup as well.

Given your symptoms though, I would more suspect a bad connection somewhere.

Spark knock. Otherwise known as pre-ignition. That'll blow holes in pistons quite handily. Likely the blown plenum was a contributor.... oil gets in the combustion chamber, cokes up, and leaves...

There are two adjustments. Both are easier to do if you remove the steering box from the truck. Procedures are in the service manual. (which I think you can download from somewhere around here......)

Front shaft unbolts from the t-case. Given its floppy nature at this point, just stick something thru the available space, that you can use to jam it, and keep it from turning while you break bolts...
