i have a 00 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 and my tranny just went. i found a cheap one online from this guy with a 46rh from a 95 dodge ram with a 5.2 can i use the 46rh? and will it be a straight swap out?
It's possible, but so complex, and so many things have to be changed it's not at all practical. RE being for OBDII, and RH being for OBDI vehicles.Forget the RH and get another RE that'll work in your truck. There were some minor changes made year to year, Not sure what years will work out the best for you, but someone else on here knows, I'm sure.
2000 or 01 will be direct swap. Bolt right in, hook right up, and work. (must be from the same drive style though, 2 or 4wd.) 96-99 will require changing out the electronics, and I think one part on the valve body for everything to work right.
the transmission in there now has a barcode with a date that ends in 02 on it. i think 03/18/02 or something close to that. i bought it with 135,000 so im not sure if its been replaced or thats a rebuild thing
I will be replacing the 46RE on my 2000 Ram 1500 5.2 4x4 this week. I plan on doing this with help from a friend. Are there any tricks or tips anyone can offer? I have the complete service manual. It looks to me that the most unpleasant task will be removing the exhaust as the driver side pipe loops right under the tranny.
I have done some auto. tranny's in the past and I have all the necessary tools as well as an ample supply of cold Budweiser.
No, The exhaust has to be removed on the 2000 models. That's because the Y-pipe is behind the transmission pan and not in front of the pan. That was the only year that dodge moved the exhaust system behind the pan.
