Post 2nd gen ram 1500 help

My 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 46re transmission is acting up. It shifts into second just fine but is having problems shifting into 3rd and OD I have to left off the gas a little for it to shift but once its in gear it runs just fine and the RPMs aren't running high or anything not even weird sounds. A check engine light came on and the Code was P0783 which said it indicates a fault in the 3-4 shift solenoid. I have checked my fluid and it doesn't look burnt or anything. My problem is when I look up 3-4 shift solenoid nothing comes up and I've talked to a few different shops and they have each said I needed a different part so I don't know what part I need to fix the problem or if it can even be fixed without a rebuild.

3-4 solenoid is the is the O/D solenoid.

Sounds like you could solve all of your trans issues with just doing a thorough service on it. Replace ALL the electronics (around 200 for parts), adjust the bands, change fluid and filter.

Welcome to DF! Moving this to 2nd gen ram for ya.

So I read to replace the OD solenoid I have to remove that valve body. Is that easy to do and able to be done without taking the transmission out?

They recommend dropping the valve body, to make getting the harness in easier. Rumor has it, you don't really have to do that. In any event, no, don't have to drop the trans.

Ill be getting solenoid service kit from cascade transmission. I dropped and the pan just to see if anything was in it and nothing in it at all or in the filter barely anything on magnet even. transmission fluid looked brand new so I'm sure tat kit will fix my issues.

Let us know how it all turns out. Nothing in the pan is certainly encouraging.

Don't forget to adjust the bands like Hey You suggested while you're in there.

Yes I definitely will adjust the bands as well. Anyways I was on a Facebook group and some guy was having the same problems as me so I told him what mine was doing and he should try doing what we have talked about but some guy said since I have to let off the gas for it to shift into 3rd and OD that its the clutch seal I have to fix. Im obviously no mechanic but since that P0783 code came up that indicates a flat in the 3-4 shift solenoid I'm sure its an electrical issue so I'm still gonna go ahead and get a solenoid service kit. Heres a pic of what I'm working with though I'm only 25 and have had her since high school with no plans to sell it!
