Unexplained Drivetrain Noise When Partial Throttle
2001 1500 4wd
I can't figure out what is making a vibration noise everytime I get off the throttle. The noise will stop immediately but it continues if I slightly press the accelerator. It also happens everytime I go downhill at high speeds or any time at speeds higher than 70 mph. There's hardly any actual vibration, just noise; it kind of sounds like a bad hub or something trying to engage and it sounds like it's from the front but it's hard to tell. I had all the bearings in the rear differential replaced, replaced the u joints, checked transfer case and transmission fluid and the mount looks in good shape. Any Ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the quick replies guys. There isn't any unusual noise when I put it on gear or whenever it shifts. I did just check the exhaust and I noticed the cat rattles when I shake it and it actually sounds similar to the noise I've been hearing but would it make sense to do it the way I described it above?

This is funny
I got the exact symptoms and problem your talking about. Right after or around 120 km/hr
It starts to give me a vibration / noise on hills with cruise control
Based on my current thread and all the work I did it's definitely not front end related
I noticed right after the truck started throwing the P420 code. Replaced oxygen sensors and I can hear a rattle. Damn sure the honey comb is toast in the cat
I'm in the process of changing all drive shaft and 4x4 shaft u joints and bearing kit for the double cardin joint
Then rebalance both shafts. If that don't get rid of it then I'm suspecting it's the cat but I'm surprised it can cause something like this.
I installed a magnaflow direct own fit cat to the truck and it barely lived 2 years.
I'll let you know the results as I finish up and test drive
