Default ETC Light

Progression of events:

2015, 47,000mi, routine maintenance

used vehicle this morning to take child to school.
parked all day.
went to use vehicle to get child from school and the car starts up like normal, including radio and a/c, but the engine won't attempt to turn over.
the check engine light flashes in the corner and this symbol comes on for about 3 seconds then goes away. Attempt to start care again and the ETC light stays on.

Looking all over this forum for similar situation without finding one. Been all over the internet and the solutions are also all over the place. Where can I start with the most likely solution. Thank you

What engine? Have you had the battery tested? Can you jump start it?

Thanks for they reply. It is the smaller engine, I have not been able to test the battery, and I have not tried to jump it. Dealership states it could be a faulty code requiring a computerized reset, but can't diagnose the issue without seeing the vehicle. I am trying to avoid the dealership. I will have access to the car tomorrow and provide error codes once I am able to read the OBD scanner.
