I'ts been a while......
But I once had to change the ECM on a 94 Cherokee. In my research i discovered that only a certain range of ECM ID numbers would work. In other words i couldn't just grab an ECM out of any 94 Cherokee, it had to match my ECM ID number within a certain set of number and letters.
Also, just out of random memories,,have you checked your Crank position sensor?
