Default 4x4 problems

Hi I have a 2000 ram 2500 5.9 cummins and I’m haveing issues with the 4x4 it has the manual floor shifter but it doesn’t go into 4hi or 4lo not even 2hi it’s stuck in neutral. I’ve tried shifting the lever when the truck is in neutral and at idle speed still won’t shift (transfer case linkage is not siezed) but the truck runs and drives fine it been like this since I bought it I know on this truck the actuator on the front axle is run by vacuume but some Of the lines aren’t there could the missing lines be the problem with the not shifting or is it a transfer case issue

You got a transfer case or linkage issue. The truck should not be able to move if the transfer case is actually in neutral. So that is telling me you are actually in 2 wheel drive

If I understood correctly, your shifter moves since it's not seized, but nothing happens on the other end, it's possible that shifter comb (middle of the picture) is loose, or the lever outside of the t-case is broken loose from the comb shaft.

Yeah, just take off the rear driveshaft and speedsensor connector. Can't remember was it necessary to remove the extension housing from the rear half of the t-case, but you'll see while you work with it. It's doable, but then again, it doesn't take much more to remove the whole case. Just unbolt the front shaft, linkage, and six nuts. Much comfier to work with it on the bench.

So the transfer case will shift but no light comes on and no 4x4 correct? Sounds like a bad vacuum actuator. Try this, with the transfer case in 2wd spin the front driveshaft by hand then put it in 4x4 and see if you can turn the drive shaft, if you can't then the transfer case is engaging, but the CAD actuator isn't. The best thing to do is permanently lock the CAD or get the Posi Lock cable upgrade.

I pulled the acuator today and tested it with a vacuum gun and the slider moved back and forth so that’s ok but I narrowed it down to t-case something inside is ethier not lineing up or broke or gears could be shot

A vacuum line going to the actuator could be bad as well.

The lever moves but there’s like a resistance almost like the the linkages wants to move but the t-case doesn’t
