Default 1980 D50 question

I just purchased a 1980 Dodge D50 and cant find anywhere a vin decoder for it. It is 13 digits long and my understanding is that the last 6 are just the serial number. The first 7 are

9 J P 4 W A 4

Can anyone help me figure this? Also the numbers on the door jam and dash match but the last 6 digits of the VIN on the title are different. Is that a major issue?

Thanks for any help

I found a link to another forum with a decoder, but it wont let me post the link. I searched for 1980 dodge truck VIN decoder. As for the last 6 digits not matching the title, I would think that is a problem. It sounds like the title isnt for the truck you have. I could be wrong. You can call the DMV and ask them.

Depending on your state, you can get a corrected title. Just say there was a misprint. The current VIN set up didn't start until 1981 so you have the old VIN nomenclature. Keep in mind that you actually have a Mitsubishi pickup with Dodge badging. Evidently when the truck was sold at some time, the wrong title was transferred. Some states are really picky and others less so. I ran a salvage yard from 1980 to 1984 and Kentucky didn't have titles until 1984. It was a haven for chop shops. Being 2 miles from the state line we had all sort of trouble with cars from Kentucky.
