Default Help - Jumpering the fuel pump "ON"

1988 Dakota -- trying to figure out which pins I need to jumper to get the fuel pump going (need to run the fuel pump with the ignition off -- doing some tests). Thanks!

Take a picture of the pins on the ASD, such as this one:

You want to jump pins 30 and 87. (You probably don't have a 87a on the ASD; mine doesn't.)

So.

Unplug the relay, look in the socket, and jump those two pins.

It should be easy, the middle two that kind of sort of form a T, skipping the very center hole if the socket has a connection there.

Easy peasy.

When done, remove the shorting wire and put the relay back in.

For completeness, you can use a short wire, say 14ga, with a pair of Fast-On type 1/4" terminals, such as this jumper (make it yourself, BTW!)

Ahem.

The same info is in the wiring diagrams in the factory service manual. I'd HIGHLY recommend you pick one up - Ebay used, autobooksbishko.com or your favorite book store new.

For anyone else who might come across this, you can do the jumper wire trick RalphP mentioned, but, another, and, in my opinion anyway, safer option is a bypass relay, which you can pick up at any parts store. It basically looks like the original relay, and you plug it in where the relay goes, but, it has an on off switch so less chance of a problem. The pic shows what im talking about.

Aye, it is.

OTOH - they don't carry them at the local O'Reilly's, AutoZone, or Advance Auto ... and they cost a bit more than two 1/4" FastOn males and 6" of 12GA wire

IF I was doing this for a living, oh, HELL yeah, I'd have two or three sets of those relays!

But for a one-off, the jumper does just as well.

Here they are at Advance: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...m=bypass+relay
Here is another style set at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/RELAY-BYP...-LOOP/47844073
Here is the complete master set from Amazon:
Amazon Amazon
Although they cant be had in store most places anymore (which sucks, since i got mine at Autozone when they still carried them in store), they can be ordered through them.
