What's The Best SuperChips Cortex Tune for a 2002 Ram 1500 4.7 V8?
Hello everyone! I've had my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 tuned with a Superchips Cortex 87 Octane Tune for around 2 months, and when I loaded the tune I noticed an instant difference, It made my truck feel incredible! The shifts are so smooth! I barely touch the gas pedal and my truck just goes! Now, I'm reading up on different forums and can't seem to understand if it is better to load the 93 Octane Tune, considering my truck is recommended for 87 octane. From what I read up as long as you run the tank empty, put 93 in it, then tune it, you should be all set. Should I even attempt a 93 Octane Tune considering the difference I already have with the 87 Octane Tune? Thank you!!!

Do you want to PAY for the 93 octane fuel?? You might try it for a tankful, and see what you think of it. If the power difference is worth it to you, stick with it, if not, go back to the 87 tune, and call it a day. (the 87 tune will work just fine with any remaining 93 octane, it doesn't work the other way though.... if you install the 93 octane tune, you had better have 93 octane fuel in there. )
I think I'll probably run my tank close to empty and fill it with 93 (then run the tune). Is it ok if I were to fill it up with 93 Octane even if there was a tiny bit of 87 Octane leftover?

Yeah, run it down to like an eighth of a tank, and then fill with 93. You'll be fine.
Lol I've only used 1/8 of a tank in the last week. I'll do what you said, run it to 1/8 of a tank, fill it, then tune it before I drive home! Thank you so much for the help!!!
Ya I do have the tow tune on my Superchips Cortex. How much more different is it over the "87 Octane" tune? I don't know if running a tune designed for towing would be healthy for doing a lot of city driving and some highway driving...

The Towing tune will dial back the intrusiveness of Torque Management even more than the base tune...... Torque Management dials back ignition timing at lower speeds....... for how long, I am unsure, but, NOT doing that gives you significantly more power.
And, it has the advantage of being able to test it on your current gas.
And I would assume gas mileage would significantly drop gas mileage right? I would think the Tow Tune would make the engine work a lot harder than normal compared to the 87 Octane Tune I currently have...

Well, technically, the engine would be producing more power, (torque/HP) so, you wouldn't have to step on the gas as hard for the same acceleration..... gas mileage could go either way, or not be affected at all compared to the current tune. Only way to know would be to test it.
