I replaced my powersteering pump 4 months ago everything has been fine until yesterday. Now it’s making the noise and getting hard to turn. Anyone have any ideas? Please help!!!

Is there fluid still in it? Do you have a 1500? Could be a rack issue.

Did you flush it really well? Crap from the old pump could have gotten into the steering rack and chewed the new pump up. If I have any doubts, I add a filter in the return line for the pump. You may end up replacing the rack too.

Thank you for responding
i have 2500 5.7 right after installing the new pump I flush it with 2 -3 quarts. Made sure it didn’t run dry. The guy from auto parts store told my wife to run regular power steering fluid not the plus 4. Didn’t sound right so I went back and got the plus 4 but I flushed it with the powersteering fluid.
I also replaced the oil cooler with aftermarket one.

Is there a certain type of filter I should put on it?

Was it a new or rebuilt pump? You might have gotten a bad pump. However, it's possible the trash from the old pump wore the steering rack and the rack is heading south. As for the filter, they look sort of like a fuel filter. I'd check with the dealer and see if one is available. If it's not much, get one there. If it is, get one like it at a parts store. I wouldn't get it from the clerk who told you the wrong fluid.

Ok so I changed the pump again flushed it with like 3 quarts
steering is fine . Only thing I notice is I still hear like that whining sound as if the pump was low or going bad. Its not loud or anything. And now that I remember the one I put in 4 months ago was doing the same thing. So somethings not right .could it be the steering rack or gear

Pump whine is usually due to air being in the system. How did you bleed the system?

i pulled the return line and cranked the motor I made sure to keep it full. I thought that was why it was making that noise. I checked for air leaks the first time and this time i can’t find any. I am going to look again tomorrow.
