Cranks, turns over, then dies.
Hey. 1988 dakota 2wd 3.9. recently purchased the truck. Was giving me an I second crank so I purchased a fuel pump (unfortunately they didn't have the complete assembly) sat on it for a week because if it ain't broke don't fix it. A hot day came along where it decided to start up then die. Repeated this process a few times. Let it cool and it ran well enough to get me home. Next day started up and ran without issue so went to go somewhere replaced the pump, the spade connectors inside the unit as they were loose on the tabs, and the rubber lines from the tank to the hard lines as they were shot. Also replaced the ASD relay just for ****s and giggles. Ran good for a day. Came out the following day and it's starting up and dying almost like there's a weak electrical connection somewhere that isn't allowing continuous power to give it spark. It isn't like a running out of fuel dying. I can give it some throttle and it will prolong the run for a second or 2. I'm thinking my issue was electrical to begin with other than the 8 second crank as that was the check valve in the pump. I've read about the splice on the other models that frequently goes bad but as this is an earlier model there isn't a pdc. I don't have a meter or a fuel pressure gauge and don't have the truck running to really go get them at the moment. Is there other common places to check? Anyone know where the ASD circuits ground to on the truck as the grounds don't look great in some spots. Any ideas, insights, or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
