91 Dakota to 98 360 Magnum Swap
Hello everyone, I've spent a long time reading on this forum, but never posted before. I've found a lot of helpful useful information. I however seem to have a situation that seems to be unique that I cannot find. Most guys I see going to do a swap want to keep the fuel injection, I however will not be going that route. I plan to go to a carburetor for the ease of tuning and simplicity. (And just in case in the future I want to big block swap it. Which would be amazing LOL.) I'll be much better with running my own fuel lines and a pressure regulator to lower the pressure down to a safe carb level. But allow me to give you the basics. I have a 1991 Dakota with the 3.9 V6. I have a second gen ram with the 5.9 V8. I plan to pull the engine from the ram and put it in the Dakota. I have the motor mounts and such that I need, but one question I have deals with the wiring as that is the area I am the weakest in. Specifically the ignition system. From the research I've done, seems like I can use most of the stock ignition wiring, just plug and play and the engine should fire up without giving me too much of an issue. Only issue I foresee is possibly a check engine light or something of that nature due to the fuel injection not being utilized, which is easily fixed by pulling the bulb. My question is to anybody who has done this swap before. How much wiring did you have to do to actually get the engine running? Will I have to run a new circuit for the fuel pump? Any help you guys can help would be appreciated. And also, seems to be a hot ticket item here but in case something has changed, what's a good set of headers for this? Or exhaust manifolds?
