Default 02 2wd Dakota QC - 255/65 R16 to 245/75 R16, now to 265/70 R16????

New member here, so forgive me if this has been asked before...

So when I bought my truck it came with 255/65 R16 Badyear tires, I rapidly wore those out since the new V8 truck was fun to play with, lol
I replaced them with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade tire in a 245/75 R16 size due to the amount of payload I was carrying in the bed while owning my own business...These tires have been great, at first I though that with the significant size upgrade I might have issues with the tires rubbing or the truck handling horribly, no way!!! I can't say enough good things about these tires.
Now I am looking into maybe even going just a bit bigger with a little more aggressive tread. I am looking at tires in the 265/70 R16 size and I was wondering if anyone out there had any experience with that size tire on a 2wd Dakota with no suspension or body lift?

Any suggestions?

My new 02 CC SXT 2WD has the 16"x8" factory alloys and a near-new set of Yoko Geolandar H/T-S tires, size 255/70/16- only a tiny bit smaller than the 265/70/16 you want.

I have *No* experience with 265/70/16s, but let's do a little math:

1. They are only 10mm wider cross section than my 255s, that's only 5mm on the inside. I have no problem with anything rubbing at full lock- heck, the factory tires were also 255 mm wide- & suspect the 265s would do fine.

2. Height: my current tires, according to Yoko, are 30.3" tall- that's about 0.2" taller than the numbers compute. The computed height of a 265/70/16 is 30.6" tall. So for a nominal extra 0.3" height over a 255/70, no problem.

265/70s computed height will be only about 0.13" taller than your current 245/75s, you'll never notice that. If you're happy with the 245s you'll probably like the 265s just fine- and they should give you an extra 1/2" to 3/4" of tread width on the ground, depending on brand/model.

Since you have the 4.7 V8, you'll have enough power for the extra size over the factory 29" tall tire. My 3.9 V6, on the other hand, could use a little more power, or a little shorter tire!
