For those shopping for a super duty truck that can haul lots of gear and tow heavy loads, the RAM 3500 is worth a look. The one sent to us to look at was a Laramie, Longhorn, Crew Cab, 4x4, long box. It was loaded with everything the factory offers.

Engine
The base engine is a gas 6.4 liter V-8 rated at 410 horsepower, and 429 lb./ft. of torque. Next up is a diesel rated at 370 hp and 851 lbs./ft. of torque. The third choice is seen here, a heavy-duty 6.7 liter with 400 ponies, and a whopping 1,000 lbs./ft. of torque! The price of the motor is whopping too, as it adds $11,795 to the price. Keep in mind that it is over the cost of a V-8 gas engine, which typically adds about $4K to the smaller 1500 Ram over the V-6, so do the math, and this is a very expensive engine to own. FCA covers it with a 100,000-mile warranty.

Front End
The grille has increased 30% in size to feed more airflow to that powerful diesel engine. When drivers see this large mass in their rearview mirror, they move over in a hurry. The diesel emblem lets onlookers know you are a big spender and have the most powerful engine in the fleet!

Price Sheet
Adding the cost of that big engine, dual rear wheels, tow package, and plenty of luxury goodies, the total tab came to $86,300. For this hefty fee, the purchaser with be driving in style, and the envy of other truck owners at the local rodeo. With a length of about 22 feet, this truck can haul plenty of gear. However, making U-turns on a city street, or fitting this mammoth into a spot at the indoor parking garage requires caution.

Side View
With a width of about eight feet, taking this truck through the fast-food drive-through lane is not a good idea, as it is unlikely to clear. But there is plenty of room in the bed for cargo, that's for sure. When making tight turns, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the large side-view mirrors to make sure the dual tires clear any curb that might be there.

Trailer Hitch
With this gooseneck hitch, the 3500 series can tow over 35,000 pounds if equipped with the heavy-duty 6.7 diesel. As always, check with your local RAM dealer for the latest specs, which are subject to change.

Cabin
The design of the new RAM interior is first-rate. It offers more leather per square foot than any truck on the market. The 4x4 system is easy to operate, as you just press a button for high or low. With that 1,000 lb./ft. of torque, high ground clearance, and six tires, you are not likely to get stuck.

Info Screen
There are three info screens offered, 5-inch, 8-inch, and this huge 12-inch. It makes navigation maps easier to use and causes less anxiety at red light status checks. The RAM dash is well designed and easy to see. This rearview camera assists in backing up to a trailer and hook up to the hitch.

Emblem
The RAM 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 with long box, and Laramie/Longhorn package is an ultimate truck. For towing heavy loads in luxury and style, it's hard to beat.
