Bringing Back the V8 Viper is a Catch-22
When it was first made, the prototype Viper had a V8 which would ultimately be traded in favor of the famous V10. A V8 Viper is a step backward or a "come full-circle" event, depending on your point of view.
Two Fangs 10 Cylinders
Power delivery of a big displacement, normally-aspirated V10 is like very few things on the planet. Torque is brutal in the mid-range and presses occupants back into the seat like the weight of an anaconda at the mere stab of the throttle pedal. A V8 would likely be twin-turbo which would provide tons of torque at the same RPM, but it’s smooth and refined. The Viper’s engine is intimidating and scares you which is what made it so popular in the first place.

Slither to Success
In recent years there has been a rapid increase in tire technology, not to mention standardization of how stable the average person expects a fast car to be at speed. The new Viper — even with a V8 — is going to be capable of unhinging its jaws and swallowing prancing horses whole.

Return to the Jungle
2021 is when the car is supposed to come out so we have quite a lot of time between now and any kind of model launch. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for quadruple-digit horsepower, the latest Michelin tires, and an aerodynamic package that puts all of the European marks on notice. In the meantime, head over to YouTube and watch 7:01 The Story of Viper’s Return to the Green Hell for some more awesome footage of the Viper doing what it does best!
