Dodge’s Iconic Demons Disappear from Production

The Dodge Challenger and its legendary HEMI V8-powered variants are officially out of production, marking the end of an era for muscle car enthusiasts. The once-popular Dodge Demon and Hellcat models, known for their raw power and unmistakable design, can only be found on the second-hand market. A recent Bring A Trailer auction spotlighted the allure of these discontinued vehicles when a buyer secured not one but two VIN-matched Demons at a significant discount compared to previous dealer markups.

A Pair of VIN-Matched Demons

The auction featured two Pitch Black Dodge Demons: a 2018 SRT Demon and a highly coveted 2023 Demon 170. Both cars bear matching #1636 VIN numbers, making them a unique pair for any collector. The 2018 model boasts just 450 miles, while the 2023 has a mere 17 miles on the odometer, effectively making both nearly new. These vehicles are equipped with supercharged V8 engines and manual transmissions, designed for performance and speed.

A Smart Buy Despite Markup

Originally priced at $93,000 for the 2018 Demon and $122,000 for the 2023 Demon 170, these models experienced steep dealer markups during their initial release. In some cases, dealers demanded exorbitant prices, with one instance seeing a Demon 170 listed for $386,321 just last year. The buyer who snagged both Demons in the recent auction paid a combined total of $265,265, including a $50,000 markup over their original MSRPs. While this is still above retail, it represents a considerable saving compared to what others paid during the height of demand.

Unmatched Performance

The performance specs of these Demons are staggering. The 2018 SRT Demon delivers up to 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque, while the 2023 Demon 170 ups the ante with a whopping 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque. These figures reflect the raw power that made Dodge Demons legendary among muscle car enthusiasts. Both cars come with various accessories and performance tools, including the 2018 model’s Demon crate, which features items like a race-tuned ECU and front-runner wheels, enhancing the cars’ track readiness.

Collector’s Treasure

Both Demons come with exclusive branded extras, such as a decanter set engraved with the VIN number for the 2023 model. Despite their limited availability and immense performance capabilities, there was surprisingly little competition during the auction, with only 12 bids placed and no last-minute surge in activity. The auction price remained steady at $250,000 for several days before reaching the final bid.

A New Era for Muscle Car Fans

For those who waited to buy a Dodge Demon until dealer markups cooled down, this auction serves as a reminder of the potential benefits of patience. Although buyers still pay above MSRP for these rare vehicles, they now have the opportunity to save tens of thousands compared to the prices seen during the height of demand. As the Hellcat and HEMI V8 engines fade into the history books, the enduring value and appeal of these iconic cars are likely to only grow among collectors.
