The Good and the Bad

Let's get this out of the way. The steep discounts available on 2018 Ram 1500 models are mostly tied to the entry-level models such as the Tradesman and Express. More visually attractive models like the Ram Sport pictured above and the Rebel to follow won't see the same extravagant markdowns. Here's the good news, if you're in the market for a lower level Ram it won't cost you nearly as much as it would have a few years ago. Click along.

Who Doesn't Love a Deal?

Here are some simple automotive mathematics, new technology, and design equal a premium in the sales price. Conversely, the sales price of an outgoing model is almost always bound to take a steep dive. This is of course barring any limited production, uber-rare spec which we'll exclude from this equation. In fact, this is a simple case of supply and demand. The new models are in rare supply and the demand is high. On the flip side, the existing model has been around for a few years and supply is high. After taking a few runs around the block, the demand is low. Let's see what kind of deal you can score on the outgoing Ram 2018 1500.

Give Me the Numbers

After much drawn out anticipation, here we go. A buyer seeking a 2018 Ram 1500 in base level form can expect bonus cash in the amount of $12,356. That's a big number considering that subtraction will leave you with a brand new, full-size truck that can be purchased for less than $20,000. Although not as extensive, discounts are available on higher levels like the Ram Rebel and Laramie models.

What Are You Getting?

For starters, a more than capable full-size truck with an established formula and proven results. Powertrain options include the Pentastar V6, the tried and true 5.7-liter Hemi V8, and the more recent offering: the Ecodiesel V6. Six and eight-speed automatic transmissions back up the motors and each has been on the market for a few years now. The strengths, weaknesses, and fixes have all been determined; leaving any potential buyer well informed.

We've Come a Long Way

The days of truck interiors being spartan and absent of features found on passenger cars are gone. Case in point, the Ram 1500 (in varying trim) can be ordered with leather seats, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, USB ports, and other bells and whistles. Although newer models will always trump the generations that have come before, the 2018 models should hold their own admirably for the next decade. That should be long enough for the prospective buyer to pay off their note and save enough shekels for their next buy.

Variety is the Spice of Life

The Ram 1500 might be the Baskin Robbins of truck offerings. If you scroll through their website, and I suggest you do, you can find a configuration for any buyer. From the utilitarian Tradesman to the luxurious Laramie, onto the down and dirty Rebel, there's something for everyone.

Road Presence

The Ram brings muscle to the truck scene unlike the competitors from Ford, GM, Toyota, and on down the line. With hood bulges and fender creases, the 1500 brings some bravado to the useful and typically mundane get-it-done vehicle. Ram also has the huevos to paint their trucks vibrant colors that focus groups would scowl and turn their head at. The result is consumers can be as unique as their truck and they can draw as much (or as little) attention as they please.

What's Left to Say?

Not a whole heck of a lot. Mostly, carpe diem. It's time to seize the day Ram lovers. To those in need of a reliable, useful, and most importantly attractive truck the time is now. The research is done, the reviews are in, and there are deals to be had. Go get 'em, tiger.
