Driver's Car

BMW's driver-oriented M2 sports car has been touted by enthusiasts across the world for its amazing dynamics and overall experience. Such a distinction is not something the Bavarian manufacturer is a stranger to. Powered by a twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, the nimble machine has more grunt than most people can handle. But the folks at Filippo Speed Shop wanted more power. A lot more power.

HEMI V8

The Bimmer's twin-turbo setup allows for a great deal of tuneability, and extraction of a gnarly amount of power. Peter Filippo wanted to go in a different direction, though. There's nothing quite like the rumble of a HEMI V8. And that's exactly what the shop has worked into the engine bay of this 2020 BMW M2 Competition.

Double the Power

The Hellcat crate unit is mounted onto the M2's original strut mounts. Though spacers have been used to achieve the correct positioning for the block. The limited space within the engine bay also required Filippo and company to have the V8 solid mounted. The new setup is capable of more than 800 horsepower, which is a massive bump over the factory 405 ponies.

Race-Ready

The Hellcat power under the hood of this Battle of the Builders competitor is not the only modification for the BMW. Filippo has an extensive background as a race car mechanic, having worked on a variety of racing machines, including Formula cars. And this M2 is optimized for track performance. A look into the stripped-out cabin will reveal the car's race-ready nature.

SEMA Showcase

The added power also introduces a need for an enhanced brake system. Stoptech brakes with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-pistons at the rear take care of that. The racing setup is completed with 4-way adjustable coilovers. The Hellcat-powered M2 build rides on custom 18-inch wheels. The awesome creation was showcased at SEMA last week.
