Real Wild One

Can a very cool automobile have a renaissance if it never stopped being cool? If you’re just learning about the wide variety of 70s era Dodge Dart restomods that have gained popularity of late in the show and collector circuit, don’t tell anyone —the Dodge Dart has long set the trends. This particular lime green firecracker bears little resemblance to how it drove when it originally departed the assembly line, but it’s classic good looks are nothing but improved.

Shut Down the Club

The car's split aluminum grill and circular headlamps juxtaposed by small rectangular high beams give the car's front stance a kind of smiling look, which is what you'll be doing when you get behind the wheel. It's not terribly uncommon to find '71 Dodge Darts restored with their original paint schemes, which came in nearly 20 available options ranging from the conservative "Dark Blue Metallic" to trippier hues such as "Butterscotch", "Hemi Orange" and Citron Yella." Needless to say, the über hip fluorescent green paint job this Dart sports now would have blown a mind or two back in the day.

Party Goin' Wild

According to the car's original order codes and retail pricing schematic, you could have thrown in tinted windows and a tinted windshield back in 1971 ford $33.85 and $25.05 respectively back in 1971. And while that's barely enough for a tank of gas nearly a half-century later, the sleek curvature of the cars windows still offer a terrific look. While this Dart's connected hardtop roof is plenty to keep it's sparkling interior and your passengers comfortable when the sky opens, it's funny to think that the original 1971 Dodge Dart model was available with a manual folding sunroof that was quite a task to open and shut given the breadth of the car's interior.

Blast to the Roof

The original '71 Dodge Dart was powered by a 340ci V8 engine capable of 275-horsepower. That’s been replaced by a new Mopar 383ci V8 complete with an aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder Heads mated to a sultry three speed automatic transmission produced by TourqeFlight. The new engine doesn’t only produced a tick more speed, but a much smoother ride on the highway than the original. Also, it doesn't take a mechanical engineering student to respect the spotless condition of the engine bay.

Surfing the Crowd

The underneath of the car has been restored so well, it looks like it's never seen a road. In addition to two dual exhaust pipes with Flowmaster brand mufflers that help the V8 rumble, the car also boasts brand new steering and suspension systems, rocker panels, and driveshaft as well as new fuel and brake lines.

Break Loose Again Tomorrow

Inside, this Dart Singer packs plenty of room thanks to two race inspired front bucket seats with five-point harness belts in addition to a full rear bench seat with upholstery that matches the black floor carpeting. One of the coolest parts of this Dart’s look is that it predates bumper restrictions put in place in 1973, a fact that only accentuates its sleek look. Whether you take this car for a cruise into the city or open it up on your favorite valley highway, you can do so with the confidence of knowing you’ve got another half-century of adventures ahead —each one a proud representative of a legacy of cool.
