End of the Road for the 1500 Classic

Ram has officially announced that the 1500 Classic will be discontinued after the 2024 model year, bringing an end to a beloved option in the half-ton truck segment. Introduced in 2009 and continued alongside newer models since 2018, the Classic served as an affordable entry point for many buyers. While it will remain available into 2025, production will wrap up this year, signaling the end of an era for this truck.

Transition to Newer Models

Starting in the 2025 model year, the current-generation Ram 1500 Tradesman will take over as the entry-level option. Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson explained, “The Ram 1500 Classic has been a great entry point pickup for Ram, and the Tradesman model has certainly represented the needs of our commercial truck customers." The transition highlights Ram's commitment to modernizing its lineup while still catering to budget-conscious buyers.

The Last of the 5.7 Hemi V8

With the discontinuation of the 1500 Classic, Ram is also phasing out the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine in its half-ton trucks. This engine, known for its robust performance with 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, has been a staple in the lineup. However, the Hemi legacy continues with the larger 6.4-liter version powering Ram’s heavy-duty trucks, ensuring that enthusiasts can still find that iconic V8 power in the brand's offerings.

Pricing and Availability

As of now, the 1500 Classic remains available on Ram’s official website, with the Tradesman trim starting at $38,705 and the Warlock at $43,635. These models come standard with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 available as a $2,545 option. In comparison, the 2025 Ram 1500 Tradesman starts at $40,275, showing a slight increase in price as Ram shifts focus to the newer generation.

Future of Ram's Lineup

Despite the changes in the half-ton segment, Ram's heavy-duty trucks will continue to offer powerful V8 options. The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 remains available, ensuring that those needing higher performance for demanding tasks are still covered. Additionally, the new generation of the Ram 1500 includes advanced engine options like the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six, which provide more power and torque than the outgoing Hemi V8.
