Rendered Classic Charger Gets the Cyberpunk Treatment
KIA Motors senior exterior designer shares his virtual version of a restomod Dodge Charger Daytona.
Charger Daytona
Way back in the 1960s, a marvel of motor racing was introduced to the world. The Dodge Charger Daytona revolutionized the American racing scene with its over-the-top aerodynamic elements. True to its enthusiast-driven culture, Chrysler also engineered the amazing Daytona as a road car, and so the legendary history began.
A Modern Tribute
Now more than 5 decades later, the following for the powerful beast is strong as ever. And that is apparent by the extremely high desirability of these Chargers at auctions around the country. So, it is no surprise to see automotive designer, Marcell Sebestyen pay tribute to the mythical Dodge racer in these digital renderings.
Troublemaker
Sebestyen, an exterior designer for KIA Motors in Europe, calls his digital restomod "Troublemaker." And to celebrate that gigantic rear wing design of the Charger Daytona, in his recreation, he's made the wing even larger, making it stick out from the body on the sides. The way the wing appears to connect to the body is through the taillight LED bar, which is cleverly done!
Cyberpunk Inspiration
Taking into account the overall styling theme of the virtual Charger, it is not difficult to see the aesthetic connection to the imaginary world depicted in the new hit video game Cyberpunk 2077. The retro-futuristic look of Sebestyen's Daytona would fit in perfectly within 'Night City.'
Streamlined Front
The theme continues in the front of the car, with a singular LED bar covering the width of the front fascia. The front splitter has been reimagined with a modern twist as well, making room for much-needed air intakes. Speaking of intakes, the area where the pop-up headlights would be situated on the classic Daytona makes room for more air to enter the engine bay.
Nicely Designed
Sebestyen explains in his Instagram post the thought process behind his virtual restomod. He speaks to wanting the wing to be an even more dominant feature of the car, and the front nose section becoming a more natural extension of the hood profile. And we see many digital artists sharing their own takes on modern and classic cars, but few projects are as well-thought-out as this one. After all, you don't become a senior designer of a global manufacturer without having good design taste!
