This Restomod 1967 Charger is Packing 651 Horsepower

Not many cars can boast being featured on the cover of Popular Hot Rodding. But this '67 Charger's beauty is more than skin deep, it's undergone some extreme mechanical re-engineering too.

Professional Build

Johnson's Hot Rod Shop created the inspiring 1967 Charger pictured above. Everything from the engine to the body and chassis has been re-engineered to create this silhouette. The build was a resounding success, and the car was featured on the cover of Popular Hot Rodding in April of 2012.

Powertrain

This car is just as impressive mechanically as it is stylistically. Under the hood sits a Ray Barton 528 ci Hemi V8 which produces 651 horsepower and 618 lb.-ft of torque. All of this power runs through a Bowler 4L80E automatic transmission.

Laying it Down

The task of getting all of this Charger's monstrous power to the asphalt isn't an easy one. It sits on the shoulders of massive Dana 60 rear end with 35-spline axles and 3.50 gears.

Handling

We know this thing is quick in a straight line, but it might surprise you to know it's not bad around the bends either. It's been fitted with a Magnum Force K-member with tubular control arms and a sway bar. It also has RideTech coilovers all round and Magnum Force 4-link rear suspension.

Wheels

Ensuring this Charger is cool from the ground up are Billet Specialties Lobeck wheels. These beauties house 14-inch Viper disc brakes, which should help to keep those 651 horses in check.

Style

A lot has been done to achieve this model's sleek yet aggressive stance. Its front and rear bumpers have been narrowed and flushed. A new transmission and driveshaft tunnel was fitted to tuck the driveline closer to the body. The rear wheel wells were also moved 3-inches inward on both sides.

Making Alterations

Many of the alterations made to this Charger don't just make it look better but serve to increase its performance too. There are openings on the front bumper to send air to the transmission and power steering coolers. The rear bumper also has horizontal openings for the dual exhausts, which are somewhat subtle but really complete the look at the back of this car.

Performance Parts

Quite a lot of parts and man-hours have gone into getting this engine to produce such epic performance figures. The Mopar Performance iron block was bored to 4.500-inches. A Cross Ram intake with dual Edelbrock 650 cfm carburetors was added along with an MSD 6AL ignition with a Mopar Performance distributor. The whole car breathes through beautiful Magnaflow mufflers.
