If you’ve ever wondered what the outcome would be in a straight-line street race between a second generation Dodge Viper SRT-10 and a Tesla Model S P85D, then look no further!

The Tesla Model S P85D is a known bruiser. It makes a total of 691 horsepower between its front and rear electric motors and its 686 lb-ft of torque is ready to go as soon as you switch the car on. Its acceleration is intense, to say the least, sprinting to 60 mph in just over three seconds. The P85D will hunt down the 1,320-foot line in about 11.5 seconds, trapping around 115 mph. Keep that trap-speed in mind for later.

If the Tesla is a technological achievement of the modern world, the Dodge Viper is Stonehenge. Dated, archaic, and undoubtedly magnificent. Its 8.4-liter V-10 pounds out 600 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. It sends all of that power through a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox to the rear-wheels while making haste to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. It too crosses the quarter-mile in around 11.5 seconds, but traps north of 120 mph.

The trap-speed is important, and you clearly see its effects in the video. You will notice the Tesla does an excellent job getting the jump on the word, “Go!” Quickly thereafter, however, the Viper zips past as if the P85D forgot it was racing. The Tesla tips the scales at just under 5,000 pounds, giving the Viper a 1,500 pound advantage. It would be more fair if the Dodge were towing a Smart ForTwo – just sayin’.
