Default what headers fit ?

hi.
i have a 99 dakota v6 3.9 and i just got a 91 5.2 ( 318 ) to swap in.
i have the ecu too.

my question is can a 93-03 318 headers fit on the 91 318 ?
i know the 91 is TBI and the 94-03 are magnum.

i cant find this info anywhere but they all say most 318 parts fit whatever the year is ?

having hard time finding 91 headers here in canada.

thanks

Well, Magnum headers won't have the fitting for the smog pump.

But more to point - exactly how are you going to control that TBI motor? The ECU is radically different between 1991 and 1999.

Also, the 1999 Auto is electronically controlled, the 1991 is hydraulically controlled save for lockup and OD.

You might find a bit more work to swap that LA motor in.

My suggestion is to find a Magnum 5.2 or even a 5.9, and drop that in.

i know tbi is different. i have the ecu with it.
for the tranny i keep mine ( freshly rebuilt 42RE with about 500$ for all sensors )

for the fitting ( no idea about what you are talking " smog pump " ) but i guess i can deal with it as i will put a wideband on the header anyway.

so la and magnum exhaust manifold/header flange is the same ?

if you ask why i want to keep this la 318 is because i got it FREE with 90 000 km without tranny and i may be able to get a 95 318 magnum ( ram ) headers set for 200 ( cant remember the brand but it cost +/- 600$ and only 2 mounth of use )

i also checked the compression and this engine is in a good shape.

here in quebec i cannot find ANY 318 that works for under 800$. cheaper are around 500 and blown.

Don't know how you can use the 91 ecu pre-odbii on a 99 that was odbii. You'll have to basically rewire the whole truck. I don't think the bulkhead connectors are even the same. The 91 ecm also won't be able to control that RE transmission. 91 was hydraulic. I think you'll spend far more than $800 trying to get a pre magnum LA block with TBI to work in a magnum odbii truck. Sell the LA block you got for free and pit the money towards a proper magnum 5.2 or 5.9.

This.

The LA is NOT the Magnum.

Sell that LA 318, buy a Magnum 5.2, and it should drop right in, almost.

Since you're coming from a V6, you'll have to add the two extra injector wires and pick up a V8 ECU. And the V8 fan shroud.

Everything else, however, should be straight off the factory parts list for a 1999 with the V8.

alright thanks. rewiring is not really an issue even if its a big job. for the tranny i tought it was another computer that control it just like my old accent , lancer , rio , sentra , and regal.

i guess i could still sell it at a higher price here.

iight i never tought about the transmission control.
ill just sell the 318 and try harder to find a magnum 318 wich is nearly impossible here.
