Default Hey new here few problems

hey all names Cameron just bought a 98 5.9L SLT Durango 4x4
runs/drives great but shouldn't the tempature gauge be somewhere in the middle? My car never gets above 1/4.. EVER... I think thats why my heater doesn't blow hot at all..

Welcome, I'm new as well.

My 01 Ram had the same problem with the heater. Turned out it was the flap door. I think the shop had to pull the dash out a bit to get to it. Can't recall the cost, but it was a bit higher than I was anticipating.

hi and welcome....

1/4 is about right, that's where my 98 sits generally... I would start with the basics with the heat... make sure the coolent level is topped off to where its suppost to be.. if that's good next i would make sure your heater core is not clogged... you can very easily flush it, there are many videos out there on how to do that just be cautious of what chemicals you use as they may cause crap that is holding other crap together to break loose and the heater core to fail. Generally you can tell if the heater core is clogged, one hose will be hot while the other is cold..

If still no dice then i would look into the flapper door as mentioned above as a culprit. Generally more time than you would think it turns out to be low coolent or a clogged core.. good luck and HTH

So I took it into my work (autoshop) and checked heatercore hoses. one was warm one was hot. So from there I was assuming clogged heatercore but traced it farther. Put a thermometer in radiator cap with it running. gauge for engine temp is at 160. The thermo shows 105. So i shut the car off and feel the radiator. driver side is hot as hell can't touch it. passenger side is cool to the touch. So I need to either get my radiator flushed or replace it.. either way its about ~150.
