Hello: I have a 2002 Durango 4x4 with an automatic transmission. My back up lights don't come on all the time , but if I play with the shift lever they will come on and off. Is there an adjustment for it ? Can I repair it myself ? Thank You. O - R

 

The neutral safety switch screws into the side of the trans. It's a large 3 wire connector, should be on the side where the shift cable is routed. They have plunger contacts that wear out.

 

My friends durango does the same thing
most of the time backup lights dont work

Is there any way to clean those contacts or just replace the switch?

 

Replace it.

 

since it's an 2002 shouldn't it have the 5 wire range position sensor and not a 3 wire neutral safety switch?
