shift lever replacement
Hi guys,
My 2001 4.7L 2WD is in the dealer getting a recall fixed.
reason for this is the thing wouldn't go into park.
Dealer called and said the recall isn't why it won't go into P, it's the shift lever that's worn out.
It needs a new one and he want's $480 for parts/labor.
I've searched this forum and the web but only found one post about replacing the shift lever and 1 reply to that about having the same problem.
Anyone know how intricate this job really is?
Are there any specialized tools needed?
Any tricks to make it any easier?
I'm pretty handy and know my way around a car pretty good, but have never taken a steering column apart before. Can't seem to find my Haynes manual either.
Also need to replace the steering coupler (intermediate shaft), lot of play in the wheel. Always thought it was just bad alignment. Doesn't seem too hard but I'll ask anyway...anything special to know about this job?
