New to forum and towing question
Hi All,
I just got a new, to me, 1985 W350 Prospector! I am super excited about it.
My wife took one look at it and said, "now I can get a tiny house!"...****.
A little about my rig, W350 so its a 1 ton, NP435 trans, NP208 transfer case, 31" tires, 4.11:1 gears, la 360 rebuilt/balanced/blueprinted 30,000 miles ago, has a standard tow hitch and a trailer light setup.
Now the question, can i safely tow 15-20k with this truck? Can i use the standard hitch or do i need to go to a 5th wheel? Do i need to add a leaf or overweight stop? Will i die in a horrible flaming death?
I was seriously considering the rear brake disc conversion, braided break lines, and upgraded rotors for better stopping. I think trailer brakes would be a must.
Thanks for the advice,
Jason

Hi All,
I stumbled across most of the information I needed in the depths of the internet. Not sure its entirely accurate, but this is what i found:
W350 with dana 44 front and dana 60 rear - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 8001 lbs. If you have the optional dana 60's front and rear its 9001 lbs.
Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is 17,000 with a manual. its much lower with an automatic.
Curb weight, i am still looking. I thinks its in the neighborhood of 5000 lbs, which puts the towing limit near 12,000 lbs.
