rpm shift points and redline
Hi Guys,
I am having trouble figuring my transmission out. I have a '89 Ramcharger 4X4, 360 (5.9) with TBI, TF 727 trans. 3.55:1 axles. It has been a long time since my last 360, I have had several 318s. My trouble is with the gas on the floor I get about 22 mph out of 1st gear and about 52 mph out of 2nd gear, this seems to be very slow for both. Granted I have been driving cars with 318s but am used to 40-45 in 1st and 78+ in 2nd with 3.23:1 axles. The info I have is a 1st to 2nd shift at 35-42 mph and a 2nd to drive shift at 62-68 mph. What I would like to know is, is the shift info that I have correct and if so what rpms should I be at those shift point and what should the redline be (am planning on installing a tach soon).

those about normal for medium acceleration. will shift a bit sooner under light acceleration or a bit later under wide open throttle. my truck will hold first gear until about 37mph if i floor it and will hold second until about 55mph. you could adjust the kick down linkage to change when it shifts.
