Default Tranny slow to shift into high gears--high RPM

When shifting into higher gears sometimes RPM's really climb before it shifts. At times it seems the tranny is not even engaged before it finally shifts. 99 ram 1500 100K miles transmission fluid is full and clean. I read in the forums about sensors, I am not familiar how these work or if that may be the problem. It seems to be worse when the truck is cold. I am probably not going tear into to to see what is going on. I just want an idea of what to expect if I take it to a mechanic. ty in advance

Check your TV cable adjustment before doing anything else.

And when checking fluid, how are you doing it? In Neutral or Park? Warm or cold?
