There's an article somewhere on pirate4x4. That is very in depth and explains everything you need to do about completely rebuilding a diff in your driveway. Maybe you're not completely rebuilding it but you have to understand how everything works together so you don't inadvertently destroy something.

Some tools you can get away with out, some you can't. It tells you what you absolutely have to have.

Its very long. I recommend reading it over and over till you can *******ly recite the passage.

Also, DO NOT post anything on pirate. Lol.

Only thing is that one uses shims on the carrier he's describing, and the contact pattern adjustments are different from the fsm, everything else is that article is VERY informative

If anybody is following yet, just got done rebuilding it, got good contact pattern and no gear noise. Runs great. Once I had all the tools in my hand and could see it, it was actually pretty easy. Culprit was probably 5 clutch packs fell apart and got up into the inner and outer pinion bearing. Wish I could figure out how to post pictures it was ruined can't believe there was no damage to the ring and pinion
