OK, I just pulled the IAC off, and she doesn't move one bit when I turn the key ON. I can feel an electric motor inside moving, put the pinion does retract or extend. I even pushed it in to see if it would move, and it did not.

I'm going to do one more test before I plunk down $45 for a new IAC....

UPDATE:: Checked the IAC again, this time I pulled the battery cable off as steve had suggested.

When I pull the battery cable off, and only then, the IAC moves when turning the ignition ON. And subsequent tries thereafter and the IAC does not move.

However, when I disconnect the battery then power on subsequent times without pushing the piston back in, it will extend to the point of unscrewing itself from the valve and spring and piston go flying....

This normal operation?
