Cool looking truck with higher miles vs. standard looking with low miles
Hi all!
I'm in the market for a 3rd gen 3/4 ton Ram and I came across two contenders that are within my reach, physically and financially. I know a vehicle purchase is a very intimate kind of thing, meaning people want what they want and it's really up to what that person likes in the end. I guess I'm just after what any respondents to this thread might do in my situation
So here are the trucks.
They are both 2003 SLT 3/4 ton 4x4s, with almost exactly the same options. Clean title, HEMI 5.7, cloth seats, towing package, heated mirrors, CD, sliding glass, fog lights, 3.73 gears, good tires, both are pretty rust free, etc.
Main differences:
#1 has 115,522 miles, 1 owner, towing mirrors, all the visual upgrades you can see in the pic, brake controller, nice spray in bed liner, just a few of the expected scratches here and there. And it is local, just a couple miles from me. They're asking $14,500.
#2 has just 66,020, 3 owners, standard mirrors, plastic insert type bed liner, but it is 93 miles from me so I have not seen it up close yet but the pics look great. They're asking $14,995.
I currently own a 2001 1500 SLT Laramie with 151k, and it's black and I love black trucks, but it's so hard to ignore the crazy low miles on the red one! I found the local one first, then I found the red one on another search. I do like the looks of the red truck, and I could customize it to my liking over time but the black one has custom additions on it that I like.
So, what do you folks think?

It's a difficult call! I like the look of the black one for sure. Are the wheels exactly the same though? The black one's wheels are aluminum, the red one's wheels look similar but almost look like wheel covers.
I like that #1 has only one owner but with the towing mirrors and brake controller I have to think it hauled heavy loads most of it's one owner life, that can be bad right?. #2 has had 3 owners but the first 4.5 years it was a lease vehicle only doing 3,900 miles a year. The 2nd owner was 5.5 years with 12k miles per year. I'm sure the bank will like the low miler more too.
hmmm.....
