Default correct tire size

Hello... I am little confuse and not sure what size of tire suppose to be.

My truck is 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 as SLT two wheel drive. I looked at the label by the door and said 245/70/17. I searched the internet what I look for the tire replace.

Some stores searched on their computer and said 265/70/17, which I am little confuse about... I went to the NTB store and ask them about 245/70/17 and they filled out the order and done... then I looked at the new tires... why they put 265/70/17? They said computer per request!

Six years later, all four tires started worn out trend and I searched all stores, same things today, they said 265/70/17. I said, Label show 245/70/17 and they said that label is not correct. They seem little rude to me.

Yesterday, I called the Dodge dealership and they said recommend to have 245/70/17 per label said.

What do you think? is 265/70/17 hurt anything to the truck?

Let me know. Thanks!

The only issue if the truck originally came with 245 tires is the speedometer will be slightly off for 265 tires due to the diameter difference but that will be small.

245/70x17 is the "standard" tire. Tow packages get 265/70x17. 265/70s will slightly change your effective rear gear. I have 285/70s, which make my effective gear ratio ~3.33 (from 3.55). When calculating fuel mileage, I have to add 4.3% to compensate for the error. My speedometer reads 76 mph at an actual 80 mph. 265s won't hurt it, just be aware of the slightly reduced torque and speedometer/odometer error.

"Label show 245/70/17 and they said that label is not correct." Yeah, like some bozo behind the tire counter knows more than the folks who built the truck. I've had to remind those types who the customer is. Too many of them don't even know the proper rotation pattern.
