OK, I currently own a 2000 Town and Country that has 103k miles that I bought 9 months ago for $5k. I have the offer of a 2000 Dodge Caravan (base) with 82k miles for $3.5k. Should I take the caravan and sell the T&C? I think i could sell it for 5.5k, giving me a gain of $2k. How simmilar are the 2 vans? What are some of the pros and cons of a dodge caravan? I think that it has the mitsu 3.0 motor (which I feel is an upgrade from the T&C). How is the tranny on the 2000 caravan? I have heard some bad things about them. Please let me hear any input any of you have. Thanks!

I may be wrong, but they should be just about the same van, just in different packages. I don't know about the Mitsu motor though, I think the Chrysler motor is better overall, but that's just my opinion.
I know a lot of people have had problems with the Caravan tranny, but mine has 201,588 miles on it, and it works fine.
If it is a 3.0L then it is a mitsu motor. I think that motor may be a little more peppy than say the 3.3, but it will almost certainly burn oil, and develop a "ticking" problem. If I'm not mistaken the 3.0L's were also mated to a different tranny, than the one the 3.3/3.8L are mated to. I could be wrong on that one.
Without consulting my techs, I am going to say the 3.0L have a 3 speed.
And a base Caravan is going to have considerable less features than your Town and Country.
All and all the vans are the same. Same powertrain options, same chassis, same body.
The differences are facias, interior appointments, options, etc.
Unless you feel REALLY confident you can score $2000 on the deal....keep the Chrysler.
