noisy thudding when accelerating! HELP!

My 98 dodge grand caravan makes this thudding noise when accelerating. It only occurs while car is in drive and it doesnt occur while coasting.It continues as long as I continue to accelerate. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions, thank you The car does have 177,000 miles but I don't want to replace it yet.

you also might have a wheel bearing going out but they roar more than thump. is there a vib. under acc. if so does it go away when you let off the gas. alan

yes, the noise stops when I let off the gas.

have to jack both wheels off the ground then runn it in gear and feel the strut / spring for a VIBRATION if they both feel the same i would think axle / also check the boots for ripes or greese all over/ it not a allwheel drive ? then you have to jack all 4 wheel off the ground alan
