Default 2012 Charger Rt Alternator Problems

Have a 2012 Charger Rt and love the car!! Today I was doing a little Xmas shopping and got a "unable to detect key" message while driving, about 10 minutes later the radio cut off and all the warning lights in the instrument cluster lit up (ABS, BRAKE, Traction control and others)!! I pulled in a walmart parking lot and cut off the car and smoke started pouring out from under the hood!! I raised the hood and the "Burning wires" smell was very strong and coming from the alternator!! I have read there was a recall on the V6 models but have seen nothing for the V8 models!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi cudabob1967,

Sorry to hear about this! You can enter your VIN here to see if there are any recalls on your vehicle: https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls.html. If you decide to visit your local dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

Default Off to the dealership!!

Thanks Andrea!!! That would be most helpful!! Dropped it off this afternoon!!! Hope fix my problem and got a couple of recalls going to take care of while there, (tire chooks and more importantly the timing chain and guide recall Wich the previous owner failed to get done) !!! So hopefully the Charger will be back beside the Magnum, the RAM 1500, the Sebring and the 67 Cuda before to long!!! So as you can see here @ my homestead is MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!
