Unhappy 2015 Dodge Journey security alarm sensitivity question

Hey yall. We just bought a 2015 Journey the other day. It has a security system / alarm programmed into it, but it hasn't gone off. My in-laws came over tonight and tried opening the doors and I didn't even know they were here. No alarm or anything. I'm confused as to how to arm it. According to the manual, locking the door whether by key fob, indoor lock (with door open) or using outside lock button on handle should arm the alarm. What exactly should trigger the alarm to go off? Is it sensitive? My father in law started ranting and raving outside about how anyone could break into our car. We have no garage and I really don't need the neighbors to hear that and get any ideas.

It works as you described - the point is they never
got the door open therefore no audio for the alarm.
There is a small flashing red light in the dash display
that will come on when the system is armed,at first it
flashes quickly then after approx. 15 seconds it flashes slowly
indicating alarm set.
Leave your drivers window down set the alarm then reach in
and open door - this should trigger audio alert.

This ^^

The alarm wont go off just because someone tries to open the door. If the bust the window out and reach inside to open the door, then the alarm goes off. Try as Bigtsr says to test it out.
