Cold Air Intake for a 2000 A/T
Alright I'm copying this here from the intake performance forum because of lack of responses there, so if anyone knows anything about this any help would be great. thanks.
Ok, what I'm trying to do is get some sort of intake system for my neon. It's a 2000 and the problem I seem to be having is that it's an Automatic transmission. I look on Ebay and performance web sites and can find plenty of CAI systems for MANUAL but I they never say automatic. So what I'm wondering is if there's a different one for the auto or will the ones that say manual work on my car? Is there a difference in space under the hood becuase of the auto tranny? I need suggestions on how to add some cheap horsepower via some sort of intake. Any responses appreciated.

The auto trannys take up more space, especially in the place where the CAI kits route for the manual trannys. The best your gonna get with your auto is a short ram, which is a helluva lot better than the stock set up. If your interested, you can get the short ram, which usually routes it to the rear of the motor against the firewall, and the AAR Cuda style hood from Howell Automotive and then it would become a ram air type set up.[sm=smiley2.gif]I always wanted to get the AAR Cuda style hood for my R/T, but the money was never there. If they make one for the SRT-4, it will be mine.[sm=smiley4.gif]

Yes. I have read that you can get the Mopar Performance/Ice Man CAI for the manual trans cars and cut part of the lower part off and attach the filter there. However, it still might be getting the majority of it's air from the engine compartment and behind the radiator.[sm=smiley5.gif] It may be low enough though to get it from outside, because it will be under the battery. And good luck if you ever need to change/clean the filter, because you won't be able to get it from below like the manual trans cars.
