Default Fifth wheel hitch installation....

Hi Guys! I heard that dodge beds are welded on. How should I mount a fifth wheel hitch in my truck. Do I have to do it in a special way? Connect to something? My boyfriends Ford just bolted into the bed, but my bed might fly off! That would make me ANGRY!!!
Chow!

28.5' Prowler, plus trailer behind most of the time. (not gooseneck)

I know many guys that have 5vr hitches in their trucks. . .no the beds are not welded, they are bolted just like every other truck.

the ones I have seen use two peices of angle iron that fit between the bed and the frame rails, that gets bolted to the frame rails and the 5vr hitch gets mounted to that, others use the internal brackets of the bed, it is all in what you choose.

the 1ton down the street has the 5th wheel sleeved through the bed and attatched to the frame. there is a release pin you access from the wheel well. call a local welding shop or hitch shop.

Lots of smiles to that one! LOL. I will check around- hoping not to spendy! How well do the Dodges do pulling double trailer around? (hills and all). Six speed.

So why is your truck getting the 5th, if the Ford already has one???

Ohhhhhhhh, I know..........so you can actually get from Point A to Point B without blowing a glow plug through the hood, an intercooler line coming off, a turbo oil line busting losose and covering the trailer with oil, etc....

Hmmmmmmm....

Take the hitch outta that Ford, it's more than it should be carrying anyways.......[sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]

Let the household war begin.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

That is soooo funny!I love it!
I need a hitch in case one takes a crap then I we can still go. Also mine is chipped and piped- his ain't! Although bed is a foot longer than his- might screw up the length we can tow (highway patrol). But can't wait to try and tow it. We'll see how well I can do a double. Let him learn his lesson with the Ford. The only 2 I had were 1980's and they took a beating and still ran- new ones SUCK! He just replaced the glow plugs after all these months and the funny thing is "It Warmed Up Outside"!!! LOL. I think his turbo sounds a little sick- who knows! His truck!!!
