Default Car loses power when accelerating

My girlfriend has a 1997 Stratus with a 2.5 L v6. The problem is that while accelerating it sometimes will lose power like you took your foot is off the accelerator, it smooth too, not rough like the governor kicking in or anything.. Sometimes it goes into this state so long while moving it will basically coast to a stop and die (automatic transmission). Basically it feels like fuel is no longer sent to the injectors. When you try to start it back up, you have to turn it over for a long time to get it started and when it does start, it idles really rough and stalls after a few seconds. Now, when the engine is cold, it will run fine, but once it has been driven around for about ten to twenty minutes, it starts these problems. So, the fuel pump and pump relay, and TPS have been replaced by the dealer to try to solve this problem and basically they have ripped her off. It still has the same problem. Basically I've just jumped on to this bandwagon to try to fix it. I've been rebuilding my 3rd gen. camaro's carbureted v6 and right now I'm waiting for parts, but I know next to nothing about the electrical systems and sensors that are associated with MPFI engines so I'm hoping I can fix this on the side without messing around with chips or ECM tuning or what not. Her uncle, who is a mechanic, says he thinks it might be a MAP sensor, but I'd like to do some consulting before we go out spending my girlfriends money on more parts that we don't need.

i would go to a muffler shop and see if your converter is plugged, the car will do that kinda thing when it is clogged, make sure all the o2 scensors are plugged in, pretty sure they are but anything that sends a reading to the computer that will change the amount of fuel the engine gets will throw it off if they are bad, but the check engine light usualy comes on for those. I would definatly have the cat converter checked, dealers dont usualy check them. hope this helps
