Killer Z Build Thread, Round Two
So the time has come, Camille will be getting parked as soon as I get the registration and insurance current on the Jeep.
Inevitably, she's too slow for my taste, and I would like to change some things that I should have done in the first place.
The plan over the course of this winter and spring is to pull the engine out by dropping the entire K frame assembly. The rear axle will be removed (again!) and I will strip the underside of the car and coat in either Rust Bullet or Por15.
The engine bay will be stripped of all the current paint and be professionally repainted and clear coated.
The engine will be stripped to the short block and inspected for any wear. I don't plan on finding any, as it only has 4,000 miles on it. The engine will be repainted and modded accordingly.
The car is a 1983 Camaro Z28
Current Engine Specs:
1974 350 4 bolt, casting #3970010
Scat steel crank
Stock rods (with only 27,000 miles on them)
Forged aluminum pistons
Melling high volume oil pump
Molly rings
Very mild cam
Stock 350 heads
ProForm 1.5/1.6 ratio full roller rockers
Edelbrock Performer intake
Double roller timing set
Holley Street Avenger 670 Carb
Jegs shorty headers, 2.25" exhaust back to a Flowmaster 80 Series
Transmission: 700R4, fully built with high volume pump, Z pack clutches, Kevlar bands, Corvette servos, Transgo shift kit, 2300 stall converter, external cooler, B&M ratchet shifter, etc.
Suspension: Not much done here. Factory LSD rear end with 3.42 gears and rear discs, and Energy Suspension bushings. All the brakes are new, but stock replacements. They stop the car fine however, so I think I'm keeping them stock. Same with the Monroe shocks installed.
Now, here's the goodies for this winter:
Engine:
Comp Cams Thumpr CL12-601-4 Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam and Lifter set
287/305 Duration, .489/.476 lift
Patriot Peformance 185cc Vortec cylinder heads
Edelbrock Hardened steel pushrods
Cloyes True Roller timing set
Hedman ceramic coated long tubes
Jegs finned cast aluminum oil pan
Jegs cast aluminum valve covers
GMPP cast aluminum timing cover
Carb will be sent to National Carburetors to be refreshed and re-jetted to match the larger cam.
Suspension:
BMR Tubular K Frame
BMR Tubular A Arms
BMR Steering Brace
BMR Subframe Connectors
Spohn Driveshaft loop
Spohn Steering rebuild kit
Sportline Lowering Springs
Now, the only thing really set in stone is the cam and head choice. Everything else is open to discussion, and I want to hear some opinions.
Here's some current pictures of Camille, as she will look before she is parked:
