2004 Durango starts humming at 30 mph, HELP
I have a 2004 Durang with 4.7 l. Its a 2wd. when I take off, a hums starts at 30 mph and increases when accelerating. I put it in neutral and it was not in the engine. I have no check engine light. the tires are about 60% wear. The sound seems to be under the console, when I stick my head out the windows I did not hear the noise, from the wheels. I got in the back to see if it was the diff, but noise lessened there. I looked at the front u-joint, while wife shifted from P to D, I could not see any major play, just heard the valve body whirr and change.
Any help appreciated.

Had A problem like that thouhgt it was front wheel breaings so ordered new hub assembly and installed only to find out it was tires making the sound.Sound went away when I got my new tires. Even had mechanic at tire shop tell me was wheel bearings. But now I know i have good wheel bearings on a 193000 mile 2005 dakota Quad cab

are you sure it's a humming noise or a very fast sort of flapping sound, i got this sort of flapping sound likewise difficult to pin point, i suppose you could call it a hum, my best guess it's somewhere on the top of the dashpad up against the windscreen and seems to be heat related, the hotter the outside air temp is the quieter it is or not present at all, and will disappear over the speed of 60mph. but the biggest problem it's not always present, sometimes it wont appear for 3 weeks or more, and then does it every time i use the D, for a week or more.

I have a 2004 Durango 4.7 with over 221000 miles, I have had that hum for the last several months and can't locate it...we bought new tires, it isn't as loud now, but still has the hum, almost sounds like a plane winding down! Now in addition to this went out to leave last night and it wouldn't start, turns over but won't crank...This is absolutely the worst vehicle I have ever owned, purchased it new...has had 2 FCM module replacements, transmission issues, etc!
